President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has now appointed the new Chief Justice. He is Associate Justice Alexander Gesmundo this April 2, 2021.

Salvador Panelo, the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel, verified the news to The Manila Times.
“Gesmundo is the President Duterte’s personal choice,” according to Panelo.
As of the moment, the Palace has still to release all the documents on Justice Alexander Gesmundo’s new appointment.
Justice Gesmundo became Associate Justice in 2017 and currently the fourth appointee as Chief Justice under President Duterte’s time.
He replaces former Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta, who has since retired on March 27, 2021.
