President Rody Duterte graced the 120th anniversary celebration of the proclamation of Philippine Independence at the Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 2018. President Duterte, together with National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Dr. Rene Escalante and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez, Jr., led the flag-raising ceremony at the historical balcony of the house of Emilio Aguinaldo to commence the celebration. This year’s Philippine Independence Day celebration carries the theme, 'Kalayaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan.' Other wreath-laying and flag-raising ceremonies are also simultaneously conducted in different areas nationwide.
